19 Jan The Sun, the Moon and the Stars Weekend In Grandville, MI at PeaceLab Yoga
Hatha yoga translates as Sun Moon yoga…through our practice, and our lives, we all dance with this polarity of energies. Our weekend explores two sides of our experience, our strong assertive abilities and our more quiet receptive qualities, and two approaches to movement in yoga, solar and lunar.
And what about the stars?? Our chakras, like stars, are pinpoints of powerful light, energies we can learn to harness and rely on in our lives. When these stars are aligned, when our chakras are more balanced and our system is flowing, we become a source of light in our lives and in the world.
10am-12pm Solar Flow — Jump into a vinyasa class that will focus your energy, channel your will, and challenge your practice. Solar flow is about understanding the nature of fire—it’s energy, qualities and light. Practice includes warrior poses, arm balances and breath work. 2 hours. All levels.
1:30-3:30pm “The Inside Scoop” for Teachers —This session is designed for yoga teachers who want to dive deeper into the theory behind this whole weekend together. Friday’s session begins with an overview of Solar/Lunar practices through the lens of the nervous system, and an explanation of how the practices complement one another in the larger context of yoga. It also includes a vinyasa yoga practice, guided meditation and Q&A session. Can be taken as a stand alone session, or as a teacher’s guide to the rest of the weekend.
4-6pm Lunar Flow — Afternoon session will focus on fluid, intuitive movement. As we learn to go with the flow we begin to understand lunar energy, how it rises and ebbs in cycles and brings us to awareness in a more gentle, yet every bit as powerful way. 2 hours. All levels.
10am-1pm Chakras: Lecture & Practice — Come and learn some yogic anatomy–a map to help us learn about the different kinds of power we can have and can use to navigate out life’s path. Session begins with a dynamic introduction and conversation. From there we move to our mats to take it into action. Session concludes with breath work and guided meditation. 3 hours.
2:30-4:30pm Lunar Arts: Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra — Finish out the weekend with a deep dive into the receptive practices of Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra. Yin yoga uses time and gravity to affect changes in body and mind. Longer holds in poses allow us to lean into our bodies, and gives time to observe our minds and move toward meditation. Yoga Nidra uses yogic technology to access the deepest levels of restoration and relaxation. You’ll leave refreshed and reinvigorated, ready for a new week. 2 hours. All levels.
